And the punches keep on coming
Well, the "drama" that I have kept you all in suspense about all day is about Sissy. Big shock huh? Seems that the infection didn't clear up entirely from before. Or so we are assuming at this point. Our best guess right now is that there was an even deeper pocket of the infection that wasn't taken care of with the antibiotics.

She was doing so great too. Until the past couple of days when we noticed that she wasn't using the leg that she had had surgery on hardly at all. I was blowing it off as it being tender from all of the physical therapy in the pool and finally being able to use it rather than being on lock down for a couple of months. Seems that my assumptions did exactly what I was taught they would always do........bit me in the butt.

Last night, we found that her leg basically had a small explosion leaving a gaping hole just below her knee. I'm really tempted to take pictures of it so that you can all gag just like I do everytime I have to clean it out or even glance at it. BUT....I won't do that to all of you. Well, and I don't want to have to see it every time I log on here either! Tehehehe!

So, the vet came today to check her out and to check out Lucky. We've been super concerned about him not putting on any weight despite being fed almost 3 times the normal amount of food in a day for a dog his size.

Sissy is now on long term antibiotics (one month minimum). Likely longer than that by the time it is all said and done. AND on Tuesday, I get to drive her BACK to Oklahoma City to see the surgeon as they are VERY concerned about this and worried that something could be wrong with the actual surgical site. Great news eh?

Oh, but wait, it gets better.

The vet ran a bunch of tests and did X-Rays on Lucky. See, he has lost 9 lbs. in the past couple of months. All of the tests came back good. So why is he loosing so much weight? Good question. He'll be going in for an abdominal ultrasound next week. I kept asking the vet what could possibly be causing this and her only (repeated) response was that it could be some form of cancer. Apparently that won't necessarily show up on bloodwork or X-Rays. I won't lie, I about started crying, but managed to hold it in.

I'm trying to stay optimistic about it, but it doesn't look good at all right now. My only hope for him at this point is that he isn't hurting and is as happy as he appears to be to all of us. He is such a wonderful dog and has become an important part of our family even if he wasn't suppose to.

Anywho, Jeff seems to be done with all of the "honey do's" that I had for him. So, I'm signing off for the night.

Catch you all on the flip side! ;)
