Soaring Through the Sky
The Sumter RC club was hosting a family day at the park with hot dogs and all the fixings today. So, we took full advantage and luckily it was a pretty enough day that the boys could get in a little flying. Now, for those of you paying attention, this was the very first time that Kolby not only flew his first RC electric airplane that he got for his birthday, but any real RC plane at all! Needless to say, he was totally stoked about this!

Dad and Kolby making a few "minor" adjustments! Okay, mostly dad making the adjustments. Tehehe.

The Lightning patiently waiting it's turn to take flight!

Unfortunately, the second flight didn't go as well! Nor did Kolby look as happy after the second flight!

Apparently, Kolby got it going too fast and then forgot that the directions on the airplane controller didn't work in the same directions as the XBox 360 controllers and sent the airplane into a talespin. Dad grabbed the controller to try to save it, but the wind caught the wing just right and it snapped. Poor Kolby, this was not how we hoped his first day of flying would end!

Here are the shots of Jeff finally getting to fly the Lightning though. No worries, despite Jeff's firm rule of not flying again on the day of a crash, all ended well for his flights! :)

When going to the flying field, you have to enter into the Glasscock mine field. Since we were in seperate cars and Jeff didn't warn me about that part, I was a tad bit nervous about passing all of the no trespassing and dangerous area signs. But what I saw on the way out of the area, really got  me going! So much so that I had to share it with all of you! Tehehehe.

Despite the crash, I think everyone had a really good day together. And no worries, Kolby will have a new airplane by the end of the week to build next weekend with dad so that they can hopefully get some more flying time in before Jeff leaves for Iraq next month!
